AAPI emerging writer - CityLit Project - New Outlooks Fiction - “American Guy Friend”
On April 2, My short story “American Guy Friend” was published by Asian Pasifika Arts Collective (APAC) in their “New Outlooks” series, edited by Aditya Desai, a South Asian American writer and teacher. APAC is a Baltimore non-profit that “uses art to advocate representation of Asian Americans and Pacific Indigenous Americans in everyday life while building cross-community relationships.” My piece explores the culture clashes Chinese students experience when first moving to America for college.
In May, the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, I was featured as an emerging writer on Citylit Project’s Baltimore AAPI spotlight, along with local artists Ryan Artes, Rajani Gudlavalleti, Nancy Nguyen, Nguyen Khoi Nguyen, and Sunmi. Citylit Project is a non-profit that aims to foster the culture of literature in Baltimore and throughout Maryland. During the online event, we read a short piece of our work and then discussed about the piece itself, writing journey, and how we navigate our Asian American identity on the page.
